CISD Receives an A on 2017- 2018 Accountability Ratings

Posted Date: 08/17/2018

This week, the Texas Education Agency released the 2017- 2018 accountability ratings. This is the first time our state has used an A - F accountability rating system. In previous years, our state has rated districts as either "Met Standard" or "Improvement Required". There are three domains in the new accountability system.

  1.  The Student Achievement Domain identifies how elementary, middle, and high school students performed on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR). High Schools also include; the percentage of annual graduates who demonstrate College, a Career, or Military Readiness (CCMR) and graduation rate.
  2. The School Progress Domain looks at the overall academic growth of students and the relative performance compared to districts with similar numbers of economically disadvantaged students. The letter grade for this domain is based on either academic growth or relative performance, whichever is higher for the district.
  3. The Closing the Gaps Domain; is closely aligned to our federal accountability, Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). This domain looks at STAAR performance targets for the fourteen different identified students groups, including the following: all students, seven federal race/ethnicity groups, economically disadvantaged current and former special education, current and monitored English learners, continuously enrolled and non-continuously enrolled students.

The overall district rating, combines theses three domains to form one letter grade. We will use this rating along with other data as we formulate our campus and district goals for the upcoming school year. We will continue to celebrate our hard work and achievements and also work towards progress and improvements for each student in our district.

Comstock ISD received a 95 overall rating. As we are a single campus district, we didn’t receive an letter grade, but we can use TEA’s scale to assume we made an A! We will receive a letter grade next year. In reviewing all of the schools in the state, only 35 school districts (29 public schools and 6 charter schools) scored a 95 or better. The top grade was a 97. For more information, please go to https://txschools.org/

For me, this rating means one thing. we are on the right track. We are NOT satisfied with where we are; there are many areas that we know we can get better. Please know that we at CISD will be working harder than ever, to ensure that we are meeting the needs of EVERY student!
