WELCOME TO MY ONLINE CLASSROOM!!

Dear Parents of CISD 1^st Graders,

Hello! I am Valerie Varner, and I want to welcome you and your precious child to Comstock ISD, 1^st grade, 2018-19!  I have been an educator for over 25 years and I am honored to be your child’s teacher this year! I am familiar with last year’s kindergarten students, (now 1^st graders!), as I worked with them teaching Literacy Learning Stations in their classroom.

Until I am able to meet you in person, allow me to share a little about myself! In addition to being blessed with and raising two very well accomplished, fantastic sons and enjoying my delightful granddaughter, I have been fortunate to have had an array of experiences in the field of education. But I have to say, this year’s 1^st grade assignment is truly exciting! My passion is serving others; doing whatever I possibly can to help others achieve lofty goals, building confidence and enthusiasm along the way!

Let me explain a little about a couple of the supplies I am asking for and some of our routines:

1.  The triangular-shaped, 3-sided pencils-according to research, these pencils help small hands secure a natural grip on their pencil. This makes for less strain on their hand muscles so they can achieve the proper pencil grip for their best handwriting experience. (I have found these in Del Rio at HEB, aisle 30).

2.  Exercise/Yoga Mat- we will use these for their ‘independent’ reading time, ‘chill-time’, and for various learning activities done on the floor. (Standard size-72”x24”, should be less than $12 (check Marshalls or WalMart). We can talk about this one at Meet the Teacher Night, August 9^th, 6:00pm. 

3. Snack times- I plan to schedule a morning and afternoon ‘nourishment’ break! Please send ‘kid-friendly’, (not messy!), healthy snacks each day for your child.

I am so looking forward to being a part of these young learners’ lives and helping them grow to their highest potential! We will have a great time working together and will enjoy the positive growth your child will experience! I hope to meet you at ‘Meet the Teacher Night’, August 9, 6:00 p.m., Comstock ISD and we will discuss more about the upcoming year.
