On February 11, 2012, thirty six community members, parents, teachers, and students gave up their Saturday to come together for the first meeting of the CISD Strategic Design (SD) Team. The goal of this meeting was to find ways to help CISD go from being a good school to becoming a great school. Bill Henderson, Dean Munn, and Anna Munn, from the Region 15 Educational Service Center in San Angelo facilitated the meeting and help the SD Team find ways for CISD to achieve greatness. The SD Team was instructed to find their “Highest Hopes” for CISD and then plan ways to make these hopes realities.
At the end of the meeting, the Team chose the following five ways that will help CISD go from Good to Great:
- Teach an elective on Financial Literacy and Basic Business Skills
- Expand elective offerings at CHS by offering such classes as additional fine arts classes, welding, and robotics.
- Continue to constantly incorporate the latest technologies at CISD.
- Offering an elective during the junior year that will address such topics as career/college planning, SAT testing, college planning, how to interview, technical training, financial topics such as leases, loans, and college scholarships.
- Using/implementing an Issue/Investigation (curriculum) which identifies problems, investigates the problem, presents solutions to community leaders, and implements the solutions.
Thanks to all that attended and helped CISD take its first step on the Road to Greatness!
