Transportation (bus) Welcome

by Richard Carr

August 11, 2011

It's that time again, the start of a brand new school year. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all the new students who will be joining us at Comstock ISD this year as well as welcome back those returning students. This summer has flown by with all the work that is being done. The bus assignments are now completed and everyone has been assigned their bus and their seat on that bus. I would like to remind all parents that these assignments are subject to change based on various factors ( ex: siblings requesting to sit together or apart, parents requesting different seating, seats being reassigned to relieve congestion, etc.). The first week is always the most confusing and crazy, so I ask that you bear with me during this time. If you do see a need to request a change, please either call Mr. Wolf or myself, or approach me at the bus stop either before we leave in the morning or when return in the afternoon ( this goes for the whole school year). I assure you I will do everything I can to grant your request, and if for some reason I cannot, I will discuss with you the reasoning behind the decision, and work to resolve it in such a way that we will all be in agreement.

I would also like to assure all parents whose children will be riding for the first time, that starting that Monday, your children will be treated as though they were our own. All our drivers are very well qualified and experienced and will take the utmost care in transporting the special cargo you have entrusted to us, to and from Comstock. I will suggest (or ask) one favor. For those parents who would like to drive their children on the first day, I ask you to reconsider and put them on the bus the first day. I then ask you to follow the bus to Comstock so you can be there when they get off the bus (last year we had a nice train behind us). This has worked very well in the past, and it has helped the young ones get comfortable on the bus right away.

Now some rules ( awe man)

The bus stop is at Plaza Del Sol Mall, in front of JC Penny. Please have your children there on Monday between 6:30 a.m. and 6:45 a.m. The buses will depart for Comstock at 7:00 a.m. sharp. When dropping your children off, for the safety of all, please park in a parking space and walk your children to the bus. Please do not drop your children off in the drive, this creates congestion and increases the possibility of an accident.

We will be arriving back at the bus stop around 4:00 p.m.

All buses are equipped with cameras that record both audio and video.

There will be no eating allowed on any bus so please help us explain that to all. They are allowed to bring drinks on the bus, but they must be in a container with a top that can be screwed closed.

We ask that all students remain seated in their assigned seats while the bus is moving and that they keep their hands to themselves.

Lastly - we want them to enjoy the ride, talk to their neighbors, get to know them and their drivers.

If you would like to know in advance which bus you child is on, either call the school (432-292-4444), or call me directly at either 775-6375 or 313-3260 (these numbers can also used throughout the year if a problem arises on the buses)

I know I speak for all the drivers when I say that we eagerly look forward to getting to know each and every one of your children as we spend our mornings and afternoons sharing the road during the coming school year.

Thank You,

Richard Carr
